Education is a significant aspect of recovery,
and is integrated into the client's treatment
plan. The goal is to prepare students
to be on a par academically, socially,
and developmentally with their peer when
they return to their local schools. Daytop
is committed to each student's educational
progress and personal growth. Daytop provides
four distinct Education tracks while the
adolescent is in treatment.
Preparatory
School
The Daytop Preparatory School is a special
education school for classified students
who have a co-existing substance abuse
disorder. The school provides a strong
team teaching approach for instruction.
Each subject area is lead by a subject
specialist and a special education teacher.
The school offers flexible scheduling,
small groups, and differentiated instruction,
to build a quality educational program
for all students.
Each student is provided individualized
attention and support to attain educational
goals.
Tutorial Service
Daytop provides certified subject teachers
as tutors to mainstream students.
This educational program covers all grades
and subject matters as determined by the
student's home school district. This program,
as well as the Daytop Preparatory School,
prepares the students for HSPA, SAT and
other qualifying examinations or entry
into college. The program supports the
students' transition to their school districts.
GED Program
A GED educational preparation program
is offered to those older students who
have seriously fallen behind in their
grade level. They prepare for the GED
exam. When practice tests indicate readiness
to pass the GED exam, the student is escorted
to the test site.
College Credits
Daytop New Jersey has entered into a partnership
with Morris County College to offer on-line
college courses to qualified clients who
have graduated high school or have obtained
their G.E.D. Accommodations are made for
those with learning disabilities. In the
fall of 2003, the program will be offered
to graduating seniors of Daytop Preparatory
School. Qualified students must begin
the program with a one-credit course designed
to get them ready for college work.
