Friends of Daytop

The goal of the friends of Daytop New Jersey is to create the opportunity for those who have experienced the miracle that is Daytop whether it be as a resident or a family member who have had a loved one in treatment to reconnect, where they "took root and grew". Along with social networking and other electronic communication to stay up to date with Daytop New Jersey, this committee hosts two gatherings annually in both Mendham and Pittsgrove.

Moving forward, the goal will be to recruit those interested, willing, and able to become part of a mentoring program, serve on a junior executive board consisting of graduates, and to develop a community of support for those looking to reconnect.

Friends of Daytop First Gathering
"Families have reunions" said Executive Director Jimmy Curtin, "and we want our Daytop family to know that this will always be their home; that they are always welcome."

Fifty former residents were in attendance in Mendham and twenty five in Pittsgrove, and it was evident from the smiles, hugs and laughter that all were glad to have made the journey. Some of our Daytop alumni are now parents themselves and brought their children. The laughter of young children filled the air as they played with new friends. It truly made this a joyous homecoming for all.

Former residents took time out from the festivities to speak to our current residents, sharing their experiences since their Daytop days. Mendham alumni, Jessica and Mike, spoke to our current residents as did three former residents at Pittsgrove. They shared their fond memories and spoke of their lives after treatment. Our current group of boys and girls, after listening to the presentations, said that the messages made them hopeful for their own futures and reminded them of their potential to make positive contributions to their families and to society.

"This is the first of many Daytop reunions", said Curtin, "we are thrilled with the turnout and expect that even more people will attend future gatherings."
