Treatment at Daytop is designed to meet the needs of the vulnerable adolescent population. It is based on the premise of self-help in an atmosphere of positive peer interaction within the context of a family structure.

The Daytop New Jersey treatment program is unique in that our substance abuse, medical, mental health, family and educational services are fully integrated utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach. Treatment is behaviorally based and individualized to meet the unique needs of each adolescent.

Twelve Step concepts are incorporated, with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings held on site. Honesty, trust and responsibility are strongly emphasized. At the same time, conflict resolution, anger management and other emotional concerns are addressed. Family participation in the treatment process is essential and integral to the recovery of the adolescent.

Daytop New Jersey provides a continuum of care for substance abuse disorders within a therapeutic community environment. Placement is determined by formal diagnosis based on the ASAM Patient Placement Criteria Manual

Therapeutic Community
The therapeutic community (TC) provides a family milieu in which the process of self realization is the primary vehicle for recovery from substance use disorders. Involvement in the program is strongly motivated by an identification with older residents who act as role models. Within this structured setting the adolescent is provided the opportunity to explore his or her own self, establish life goals and move towards a greater sense of moral responsibility and values clarification.

ASAM
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) has member physicians from all medical specialties and subspecialties. They are engaged in private practice, serve as corporate medical directors, and work in group practice or other clinical settings. The Society's concern is with all drugs of addiction, and establishing addiction medicine as part of mainstream medicine.
